Suomi menetti jatkosodassa Moskovan vuoden 1944 välirauhansopimuksen perusteella talvisodassa menettämiensä alueiden lisäksi Petsamon kokonaan ja Porkkala vuokrattiin Neuvostoliiton laivastotukikohdaksi 50 vuodeksi.
